The goalkeeper is linked with a move to Arsenal and Inter, but he would rather move to France
Lyon are in talks to sign Andre Onana from Ajax, the goalkeeper’s agent confirmed.
The International Cameroon was linked to a move this summer, with Arsenal and Inter reported that he is eager to sign him.
But it looks like the 25-year-old will reunite with former Ajax coach Peter Bosz with the Dutch news agency USA his agent reports that a personal agreement has been reached with the French club.
What was said?
Onana’s agent, Albert Botines, said Ajax and Lyon are negotiating a deal before the new season.
He told Soccer Scoop: “Yes, they are interested. The clubs are in talks.”
The team claims that the former Barcelona player will sign a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 team. The French outlet says Ajax is demanding about 10 million euros for Onana, although Lyon hopes to save a deal worth 6 million euros plus bonuses.
What about Onana’s ban?
Onana was beaten in February with a 12-month suspension for football after testing positive for a banned substance.
Ajax and Onana claim that the substance was in his system because he accidentally took his wife’s medicine.
He appealed against the ban and it has been reduced to nine months in June.
Onana will be able to start practicing again in September and be eligible again in November.
How did he fare at Ajax?
Onana joined Ajax from Barcelona in 2015 and played in the second sock of Dutch football with the Under 21 team.
He was promoted to the senior team in 2016 after Jasper Cillessen left the Eredivisie giants.
Onana has been the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper for five seasons until he was banned from playing.
