The Citizens hope the 27-year-old midfielder is ready for action in the Premier League against Leicester on Saturday
Manchester City received a positive update on the injury that forced Aymeric Laporte to go out Spain’s qualifying victory over the World Cup on Sunday.
The 27-year-old defender was replaced at half-time by early reports suggesting he had a deep problem.
Luis Enrique tried to alleviate these fears, with the boss of Spain claiming that Laporte suffered with little more than muscle fatigue from a busy start to the 2021-22 campaign.
What was said?
Enrique told reporters when asked to provide a fitness update after a 4-0 win for his team: “Most of the changes were due to the players’ discomfort. I hope there are no serious injuries. is the bad news.
“Laporte has nothing, it’s just a small overload. I don’t think they will test him first.”
When will Laporte return to action?
Spain have another qualifier against Kosovo on Wednesday, but it is unlikely that Enrique will take risks in the match. That means Laporte can rest easy before returning to Manchester later this week.
If he has not suffered any permanent damage, he could play in the next Premier League match against Leicester against City on Saturday.
The French-born middle half was an unused substitute in their first game of the season against Tottenham – a 1-0 defeat. He has started twice since then, and he has kept clean sheets with 5-0 wins over Norwich and Arsenal, and it looks like he’s in favor of Pep Guardiola again slipped behind John Stones in the pick sequence last season.
