The Borussia Dortmund wing will be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first transfer of the summer and the deal is expected to go through to a medical
Manchester United have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho.
A fee of just under £ 73 million has reportedly been agreed between the two parties with the English international who is now medically planned before the transfer is completed. He will sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option for another 12 months.
The two clubs have been negotiating a fee for several months, with Dortmund rejecting United’s £ 67m bid at the start of June.
What do we know?
Over the past month, negotiations between the two parties have continued as they try to confirm a fee and have also reached an agreement on how the full amount will be paid, with a percentage that is expected to be additional.
Unlike last summer, where an agreement could not be reached, there was constant optimism from the United States this summer that an agreement could be reached.
Dortmund had a gentlemanly agreement with Sancho that he could leave if a buying club came up with their asking price, and the Bundesliga team kept their word and abandoned the English international team.
The fee is believed to amount to £ 72.9 million without additions.
Sancho will now have to undergo a medicine to complete its transfer, which is expected to take place after Sancho completes its international service with England.
He has yet to start for Gareth Southgate’s squad, but he remains a part of their squad as they prepare for their quarter-final against Ukraine.
Last season he played 38 games, scored 16 goals and scored 20 goals for the Bundesliga team.
He signed for Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017, making 137 appearances in all competitions, scoring 50 goals and assisting 67.
Most of his appearances were on the right wing, where United are expected to perform, but he showed his versatility over the front line and also appeared on the left and as an attacking midfielder during his time in Germany. .
What next for United?
As predicted, Sancho is joining the club for the first time this summer with the club hoping to get a few more new faces through the door before the end of the window.
A center-back remains a priority with Raphael Varane of Real Madrid, a leading target in the division, while the club also wants to sign Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier to give the competition to Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the right.
Solskjaer said at the end of the season that United need signatures if they want to close the gap in Manchester City and fight for the title next season.
