The 24-year-old missed the opening match with reports linking him to a move to Burnley
Ivory Coast international Maxwel Cornet has started his first season through Lyon as they face Angers in a French Ligue 1 match on Sunday.
The 24-year-old, who is heavily linked with a move to Premier League side Burnley, missed the first game of the season against Brest, which ended in a draw.
Lyon coach Peter Bosz, however, gave the player a starting role in the middle of the pack, and he will play with another Afrikaans player Toko Ekambi from Cameroon.
Prior to the match, Bosz confirmed that Cornet was doubtful for the match as he would not regain his fitness yet.
‘To face Angers, Lucas Paqueta is not quite ready yet. Maxwel [Cornet] is still in full fitness, but the return of Bruno Guimarães gives me another option in midfield, ”Bosz told the club official. website.
‘Jason is getting better too – he’s a player with a lot of experience. He is a very important boy. We hope the club can extend his contract. By playing a high line, Marcelo compensates for his lack of speed with his positional intelligence.
On what to expect from the match, Bosz said: ‘We have to defend as a team. In my philosophy, defense starts with pressure and it starts with the forwards. I want to play the same, both at home and at home.
“Moussa Dembele has proven that he can score many goals. We are not yet physically and tactically ready. After each game, I ask myself questions and reflect on possible changes for the next game. ”
Recent reports indicate that Burnley have submitted a € 16 million bid for the Ivory Coast, while Hertha Berlin is also interested in its services.
Meanwhile, Algeria’s attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki is starting from Lyon’s bench.
Elsewhere, Morroco’s winger Sofiane Boufal also started for Angers alongside captain and Ivorian Ismaël Traore and compatriots Souleyman Keli Doumbia.
