The club chief posted a recording on Twitter asking if they should target the Argentine star
Mazatlan president Ricardo Salinas Pliego says the Liga MX team can sign Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Teams are vigilant as Messi becomes available after Barcelona confirmed he will not sign a new deal, and although Paris Saint-Germain are the favorites to get him, the head of the Mexican side is optimistic.
The president posted a poll on Twitter asking fans whether his team should run after Messi or former player Cuauhtemoc Blanco this summer.
What was said?
“I’m thinking of inviting Messi to work with Mazatlan,” he wrote before sharing the recording.
When one skeptical follower expressed doubts that Mazatlan could get the star of Argentina, Salinas Pliego replied: “I also have a lot to bring for Cristiano Ronaldo.”
He then posted images from outside the club’s stadium, adding: “They are already getting Lio Messi’s jersey ready there at the Kraken. Such nerves!”
What is Mazatlan?
The club is located in the northwestern state of Sinaloa in Mexico and is owned by Salinas, one of the richest people in Mexico with a net worth of more than $ 13 billion (£ 9.37 billion).
Mazatlan was only founded in 2020 after Monarcas relocated Morelia, who made his Liga MX debut last season and finished 14th in the table in the Apertura campaign.
The team then finished 13th in the 2021 Clausura.
The Benat San Jose team started well this season, winning the first two games of the Apertura and beating Cruz Azul and Pachuca.
