Memphis scores the first Dutch hat-trick to level Cruyff in the scorecard

Memphis Depay equaled Johan Cruyff’s goal record for the Netherlands when the star striker scored his first hat-trick for his country on Tuesday.

Depay struck three times and set up another in the Orange’s 6-1 home win over Turkey.

The Barcelona player now has 33 goals to his name for his country from 71 matches.

Where is Depay in the goal cards?

Depay’s impressive performance in the World Cup qualifiers has put him in the top 10 in his country’s list of top scorers.

He drew level with Wesley Sneijder with his first goal before surpassing the former captain with his second in the first half.

Lenstra meanwhile retired in 1959 with 48 caps to his name.

Depay said after the game that he hoped to climb even further on the national team’s goal card, while admitting he could have performed even better against Turkey.
