Stephan El Shaarawy achieved a dramatic winner when the Portuguese boss celebrated the milestone with a victory

Jose Mourinho said he felt like he was 14 again after Roma beat Sassuolo 2-1 in the legendary manager’s 1000th career match.

At Roma’s victory on Sunday, Mourinho took his career to 638 wins, after drawing 205 and losing 157 of his 1000 matches as manager.

Stephan El Shaarawy scored a dramatic winner in the 92nd minute at Stadio Olimpico to ensure Mourinho triumphed in his outing.

What was said?

Mourinho said after the match with DAZN: ‘I was a liar during the week and said it was not a special match. But it was a special match.

‘It was a match with a special number for me, and I always wanted to remember a match like this for my 1000th match. I lied to everyone!

‘It could have ended 6 to 6, 7 to 7, (Roma goalkeeper) Rui Patricio got two miracles; we missed some goals. Extraordinary game, a great emotion.

“Today I’m not 58, but 14, if you’re dreaming of a football career. It was a children’s race, I apologized [Sassuolo head coach Alessio] Dionisi, they played a fantastic game. ”

Mourinho’s 1000 matches

The 58-year-old began his coaching career in his native Portugal when he briefly took the lead over Benfica in 2000 and won six of 11 matches.

Mourinho would also coach Uniao de Leiria before making his name in Porto, where he won the Champions League and earned the best post at Chelsea.

He would coach the Blues for three seasons before moving to Inter and winning the triathlon with the Nerazzurri in 2009-10.

From there, Mourinho took over at Real Madrid and then returned to Chelsea in 2013. He would stay in England for his next two jobs, coaching at Manchester United and then at Tottenham.

After being sacked by Spurs last season, Mourinho returns to Italy and takes over at Roma ahead of the current campaign.

A promising start in Italy

Mourinho made an encouraging start to life in Italy, winning all his first five matches with Roma in all competitions.

With three wins from three Serie A matches, Roma sit at the top of the standings, level with Napoli and AC Milan.
