The match in August was forced to be abandoned after home fans rushed to the field and clashed with players and staff of OM
Ligue 1 tied Nice with two points, one of which was suspended due to the violent scenes that spoiled their clash with Marseille in August, while OM physio Pablo Fernandez is suspended for the entire 2021-22 season for his part in the melee.
The hosts were hit hardest by the final disciplinary ruling of the LFP, but several Marseille representatives also face sanctions, and the match is repeated behind closed doors.
What was said?
“This Wednesday’s meeting decided the LFP’s disciplinary committee on the incidents that underlined the match of the third day of Ligue 1 Uber Eats between OGC Nice and Olympique de Marseille, ‘the association explained in a statement published on its official website.
“After reading the investigation report in the presence of the two clubs, the Commission decided to play the match on a relocated field. In addition, two penalty points were imposed on OGC Nice, including one suspended point.”
Which players were punished?
The raid on the field at the Allianz Riviera and the ensuing fracas arose when Marseille star Dimitri Payet threw a bottle back into the crowd, an action for which the former West Ham man received a suspended one-match suspension, as well as teammate Alvaro Gonzalez, who was also accused of provoking the home fans.
“As far as the players are concerned, defender Alvaro Gonzalez has been suspended for two matches. As for his teammate Dimitri Payet, he was punished with a suspended match,” the LFP statement read.
Fernandez, meanwhile, is part of Jorge Sampaoli’s staff in the back room who have already been suspended by the LFP indefinitely after being filmed with a good fan, was banned for the rest of the season for all Ligue 1 activities.
