The forward enters the last year of his contract with the Premier League club, after recently refusing an extension
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is determined to keep Danny Ings at the club, although he admits the player’s contract could pose problems for the Saints.
Ings has only one year left on its current agreement in St. Mary’s, where he has starred since moving from Liverpool in 2018.
That good form did not go unnoticed, especially Tottenham are linked with a move for the productive forward.
What was said?
“We need this player, we want him to play for us,” Hasenhuttl explained BBC Radio Solent.
“But I think it’s never helpful to go over the last season with another year – that’s what I think he should know.”
‘Not a perfect situation’
Ings recently turned down an offer from Southampton for four years, but his manager is determined to keep his best for the club as long as he is a saint.
“Messages like that he does not accept our contract, he does not want to extend his contract, does not help anyone – not him, not us. I do not know who sent these messages, it does not come from us, certainly not, ”he added.
“We have no interest in blaming the player or finding that he is not feeling well here at this club, nor do we want to help the best to perform for us. That is his position and if it is so is, it will be a pity.
“He’s been our player for another year. We paid a lot of money for him. When we brought him here, we invested a lot to get him on the highest level and how he is at the moment. We held him with all these injuries. he, gave him time to recover, gave him time to act.
“There’s no reason to sell him, but it’s always a risk for the player if your final year goes without a contract. That’s why it’s never good for anyone, not for us, not for him, because you never know what can happen in football – injuries can happen, which no one wants.
“People in our team tell him what to do, we have our opinion on what we want him to do. He’s our player and we want him to be here, but one thing’s clear: when he does not his contract, that it is not a perfect situation for him, but that it is not a perfect situation for us. ‘
