Onuachu’s departure from Genk ‘not sure’ – Van den Brom

The Super Eagles goal scorer may be in the queue elsewhere next season, but currently he remains a blue and white player

The manager John van den Brom, manager of Nigeria, is not sure to leave Genk, Paul Onuachu.

The 26-year-old put on awesome performances in the 2020-21 campaign, helping the Smurfs earn a Champions League league after finishing runners-up in the Belgian First Division A.

His performance of 33 goals in the league earned him the Golden Boot award, as well as the Belgian Pro League player of the year.

Despite the fact that the Afrikaner still has two years left on his current contract, he will want to leave the Luminus Arena. Several European clubs apparently want to sign him before the start of the 2021-22 season.

Nevertheless, the prolonged shift elsewhere in the summer could not come to fruition, judging by the statement of Van den Brom, boss of Genk – who does not want to leave.

“I hope we will be without them on September 1 [Onuachu’s] departure, ”Van den Brom is quoted as saying by Soccer news.

“It would be great if we could keep this core together. It’s not sure [Jhon] Lucumi and Onuachu will definitely leave, but for now they’re still at Genk.

‘These are the two players we told, there’s a chance they will leave. However, that does not mean they are leaving the club anyway. ‘

In a recent interview on Genk’s YouTube channel, the Super Eagle has expressed uncertainty about its future in the Luminus Arena.

“For me, you never know what the future holds, but I think there are many goals to be achieved for KRC Genk this season, and my career is obviously going to be one of the most important periods for me,” he said.

“It’s going to be hard to say I’m going to repeat where I’m going, but I think the players we have in this team really make it possible for me, but like I said earlier, you do not know what the future holds.

“As it is now, I think I’m really happy for the figure in the league and of course for KRC Genk.”

Onuachu joined Genk in August 2019 after seven years at the Danish Superliga outfit, Midtjylland.
