Manchester United have completed the transfer of French defender Raphael Varane to Real Madrid in addition to a record transfer of € 50 million. After the deal was finalized, the 28-year-old became the eighth most expensive player in the club’s history and the joint tenth most expensive defender of all time.
In addition to Varane, the club also secured the signing of 21-year-old English striker Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for € 85.3 million, making him the third most expensive transfer in the club’s history.
Manchester United’s most expensive player to date is French midfielder Paul Pogba, who joined him for a record transfer of € 105 million from Juventus in the summer of 2016.
The club’s most expensive defender and second most expensive player to date is Englishman Harry Maguire, with whom Varane will work at the heart of the Red Devils’ defense. The Englishman moved from Leicester City to Old Trafford in 2019 for a transfer fee of € 87.1 million.
