PSL football on TV this weekend: how to watch and watch Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns

The South African top action resumes on Saturday and Sunday with six matches

After the international break, PSL football returns this weekend with match 3 action in the South African top flight, with Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in action.

As AmaZulu and Marumo Gallants take part in Caf interclub competitions, their respective league matches against SuperSport United and Cape Town City have been postponed until next week.

The table has yet to take shape, as only two league games have been played so far, and Chiefs, Pirates as well as Sundowns have yet to lose.

Interestingly, no team has a 100% record, as all 16 PSL team lost points after only two rounds of matches.

Important PSL matches to look forward to

Two games involving some of the league’s most followed teams could attract a lot of interest over the weekend.

Orlando Pirates vs Swallows FC

It’s original Soweto Derby time again, as Orlando Pirates and Swallows FC resume their rivalry in what is Saturday’s main draw.

Less than a month after the Swallows took the Buccaneers out of the MTN8 in the quarterfinals after a 2-1 victory, the two sides clashed again.

Interestingly, the game was in Orlando Stadium and Soweto’s rivals are back on the scene as the Pirates seek revenge while the Dube Birds want to bolster their recent dominance over the Buccaneers.

Pirates’ defeat on August 14 against Swallows led to the departure of Josef Zinnbauer.

It also makes it a must-win for Pirates, that they will not yet taste the victory in the league this season after drawing in their games.

Swallows have so far recorded a win and a draw.

Pirates are hosting a first league title in a decade, and they want to score their first set of maximum points to keep their championship ambitions on track.

A victory for Swallows would be crucial in encouraging them to be crowned champions for the first time since 1965.

Mamelodi Sundowns vs Kaizer Chiefs

This is probably the biggest match of the weekend and it takes place at Loftus Versfeld.

Just like Pirates and Swallows met in the MTN8 quarterfinals, Sundowns and Chiefs also met at the same stage of the competition and are now facing each other in a league match.

Sundowns knocked Chiefs out of the MTN8 through a dramatic penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw after extra time.

That Chiefs had to come from 2-0 to secure a draw could give them confidence in their pedigree, and they could upset the PSL defending champions on Sunday.

Both sides still have to lose in this league campaign, each with a win and a draw.
