The 19-year-old winger, who is compared to Neymar, will go to France for his next career
Rennes won the race to sign former Ghanaian midfielder Kamaldeen Sulemana, who was previously linked with Manchester United and Ajax.
The French team pays a reported fee of € 15 million (£ 13 million / $ 18 million) plus additions to FC Nordsaelland around Sulemana, w.ho drew comparisons with Neymar, even though he was only 19.
Sulemana signed a five-year deal and became the fourth Ghanaian player to represent Rennes, following in the footsteps of John Mensah, Asamoah Gyan and John Boye.
What was said?
“I am very happy to join Stade Rennais FC, a very good French club,” said Sulemana. ‘The project meets my expectations. The Ligue 1 Uber Eats are one of the best leagues in Europe.
“There is a very good team in Rennes, a lot of talent. I know the club is known for its training. For a young player like me, it is the best choice to progress.
“I helped the team achieve their goals. It’s a big challenge to tackle.”
Rennes technical director Florian Maurice, meanwhile, quickly slammed the 19-year-old winger as he confirmed competition from Ajax and Premier League clubs.
“We wanted to intensify our attack. He is a player who can develop on both sides, but also in the ashes. He scores goals and knows how to make the final pass, “Maurice said. He has enormous qualities, he has speed and percussion. He can make a difference.
“It was important for us to bring an extra attacking weapon to the team. This is good news for the club. He is a good site because he is a player who was in demand. We managed to do that. which was necessary to take him to Rennes, which at first was not necessarily something obvious.
“We have been in competition with clubs like Ajax and others in the Premier League. We show that we can attract players from this position. It is a satisfaction for the whole club.”
Sulemana’s career so far
After originally coming from the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana, Sulemana joined Nordsaelland in January 2020.
He made his debut a few weeks later and scored four goals in 13 games to clinch his first half-season in Denmark.
Sulemana handed out the number 10 shirt ahead of the 2020-21 season, scoring 10 goals in 27 games last season, including a run that included five out of five.
He was rewarded last September with his first call-up in Ghana and has earned two matches for the Black Stars.
