Reyna: Sancho told me I should take the number 7 shirt before Man Utd moves

The star of the American men’s team discusses the influence that the English wing has had on him over the past few years

The American man’s national team player Gio Reyna says that Jadon Sancho told him to wear the shirt no. 7 from him before leaving Borussia Dortmund to join Manchester United this summer.

Reyna discusses the impact Sancho had on his career as the young American says the English winger served as a true mentor to him during his rise to Dortmund.

and now Reyna replaces Sancho as number 7 of the club as the current Man wing told the American repeatedly that he wanted him to take over the shirt.

What did Reyna say about Sancho?

The influence of Giant and Piszczek

Sancho is not the only player who has had an impact on Reyna during his first few years at Dortmund.

The American discussed how veterans Marco Reus and Lukasz Piszczek set the tone for everyone at the club and served as mentors for the younger players in the team.

“He’s an absolute legend at this club,” Reyna said of Reus, who competed with the American in the Dortmund attack for a few minutes.

‘I also do not necessarily see us as competitors. Sure, there are certain similarities between us and the way we play.

“To this day, I look up to him and look at things of his. I think it’s great that we have him. If you want to say there’s a competition between the two of us, then it’s very healthy.”

Regarding Piszczek, who left the club after more than a decade to join his hometown club GoczaƂkowice-Zdroj this summer, Reyna added: ‘The way he worked hard daily as a professional and always at the team was, was excellent.

“We all loved him. With his attitude, he was an absolute role model for us.”
