The Dutchman has so far not appeared at his club in 2021-22, after struggling to impress during his debut season
Manchester United agent Donny van de Beek admits he’s worried that the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo will push his client further down the stairs at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo caused a stir worldwide when he decided to return to United for a second period after three seasons at Juventus.
But it seems that not everyone is very happy to see the 36-year-old back at the club, because Van de Beek can further reduce his playing time, despite the assurance he would receive in 2021-22.
What was said?
“Cristiano arrived on Friday, which we knew was bad news for us. Pogba is playing on the left, and with Cristiano’s arrival it means another extra player in midfield, with Pogba moving away from the left,” agent Guido Albers confirmed Ziggo Sport.
“We had talks with Solskjaer and the board. We took the initiative to find a club and our search ended up at Everton. We started talks with Marcel Brands and Farhad Moshiri.
“Monday night [before deadline day] We received a call from Solskjaer and the club telling us that a transfer is out of the question and that he should report to training the next morning. “
Despite the fears, Albers is confident that his client will have the opportunity to shine.
“The perspective now is that we have declared that Donny is not a Carabao Cup player or FA Cup player, or to play only in European matches. Donny is going to England to play in the Premier League,” he said. added.
‘The way the conversation went this time [with Solskjaer] compared to last summer … things are much clearer now. I have full expectations that Donny will now get his chance.
“Donny worked very hard in the summer. He only had seven days off. The rest of the summer he trained to get top fit. He’s completely ready.”
The bigger picture
Van de Beek was a key part of the Ajax squad that excited Europe en route to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018-19, eliminating Ronaldo and Juve en route before losing to Tottenham in an exciting final four-force measurement.
The midfielder was in Amsterdam for another season before moving to United at the start of the 2020-21 season, but so far he has not lived up to expectations.
During his debut season, he has played only 19 times in the Premier League, with most of the appearances as a substitute, and so far in the current term he has remained all three of his matches in his squad.
