Team India recently had their white ball tour of Sri Lanka. Like every other team, they also focus strongly on the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will take place in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in October-November later this year.
As the mega-event approached, experts from the captivating game began to announce their choices of different teams. Following the wagon, the former cricketer in India Saba Karim nominated his team in India for the exhibition.
Karim started with the top order Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. While Rohit and Kohli are already big names in the fascinating game, Rahul would consider the World Cup as a platform to get back in shape after being inactive in competitive cricket in the recent past.
Karim selected Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav for the middle order while Rishabh pants and Ishan Kishan as wicketkeepers. Karim said he chose Iyer because he played the T20I series against England earlier this year. The cricketer reckoned that Iyer was not in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 due to injury, his previous season went very well.
‘I kept Shreyas Iyer because he was also in the team that played against England, and his performance was very good there. He could not play the IPL this year, but his performance in the IPL was pretty good last year. So there has to be a basis to keep him out of the team, ‘ Karim tells India News.
Karim went along Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja as all-rounders, while choosing Washington Sundar and Rahul Chahar for the spinner roll. Interestingly, Karim did not go along with it Yuzvendra Chahal, which is currently the shortest wicket for India. Chahal has taken 63 wickets in 49 games so far.
“I kept Washington Sundar in my team. I feel that with the matches taking place in the UAE, you will need a spinner there, and he is a kind of all-rounder. With him, I kept Rahul Chahar because I feel he is an attacking bowler, a bowler who takes a wicket, a match winner, ‘ added the 53-year-old.
The Patna-born mentions that he continues Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the team because the right bow is very important to Team India.
“I still keep Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the team because I feel his form is coming back, and he will be very important to the Indian team,” Karim added further.
