The Zambian international has inspired Steven Gerrard’s side-fight with his equalizer at Ibrox Stadium
Fashion Sakala scored its first goal for Rangers in their historic 2-1 win over Real Madrid.
The 24-year-old man made his second appearance in Steven Gerrard’s squad on Sunday after making a goalless draw in Brighton & Hove Albion the previous day.
It was a special match for the Scottish champions as it was part of their 150th anniversary celebrations.
Sakala led the Rangers’ attack, but they were eight minutes behind in the game after Rodrygo hit goalkeeper Allan McGregor with his shot.
The early goal separated both teams at halftime, but Sakala paired up with Glen Kamara in the 55th minute to score the equalizer.
A few minutes later, things got worse for Real Madrid when Nacho received a second yellow card and the visitors were reduced to 10 men.
Rangers, in turn, took advantage of the suspension when Cedric Itten – who replaced Sakala on the hour spot – grabbed the game’s winning goal in the 77th minute.
The triumph led the Gers to finish their pre-season preparations on a high with a record of two wins, two draws and one loss (1-0 for Tranmere Rovers).
Nigeria center-back Leon Balogun started on the bench and was later introduced to Connor Goldson in the 85th minute, while his compatriot Joe Aribo did not make the match.
Prior to his free transfer to Glasgow where he signed a four-year deal with Gers, Sakala dominated the Belgian First Division A with his goals for KV Oostende.
Last season he scored 16 goals in 33 league games and he will strive to repeat his impressive form in front of goal while Gerrard’s men want to defend their premiership title.
Rangers will start their 2020-21 campaign with a league match against Livingston at the Ibrox Stadium on Saturday before taking on the winner of the clash between Malmo FF and HJK Helsinki in their Uefa Champions League qualifiers.
