Several Afrikaans stars were on parade in the New Adana Stadium when the Blue Lightnings kicked off their top campaign on a lost note.
Mbwana Samatta was in action when Fenerbahce defeated David Akintola’s Adana Demirspor during their first Super Light match of the 2021-22 season.
The Tanzanian goal scorer led the attack on the Yellow Canaries on Sunday when Mesut Ozil scored the important goal that scored three points for the visitors in Adana.
Both teams had African players on parade, while Samatta played for 45 minutes, while DR Congo’s Marcel Tisserand and Nigerian descent Bright Osayi-Samuel played all the way for Fenerbahce.
Akintola joins Younes Belhanda and Mario Balotelli in Morocco in the front line of the host, and they are replaced in the second half by Pa Dibba of Gambia, Okwuchukwu Ezeh of Nigeria and Britt Assombalonga of the Congo.
It was Assombalonga’s debut appearance in Turkey following his free transfer at Championship club Middlesbrough on expiry of his contract.
Akintola also joined the Blue Lightnings of Midtjylland in July after his impressive loan spell at Hatayspor, where he scored six goals in 35 Super Lig matches last season.
Before Sunday’s outing, the Nigerian wing enjoyed his partnership with Balotelli, but both players can help Adana defeat Demirspor at home.
“We have the quality to get a result against Fenerbahce and I look forward to the game,” said Akintola. Purpose.
‘Adana is excited about a positive campaign, and our impressive run-up to the preseason gives us good confidence ahead of the game against Fenerbahce.
‘I also hope for a positive debut with Mario Balotelli. He’s been an amazing guy since I joined him, and I can not wait to help the team achieve a victory in front of our home fans.
After their home loss, Akintola and his team-mates will focus on their next Super Light match, which goes to Kayserispor on August 20, while Samatta’s Fenerbahce will face Finnish club HJK Helsinki in the Uefa Europa League play-off matches on Thursday before their host is Antalyaspor for their next league outing on August 22nd.
