Serie A club Spezia has given a transfer ban for the signing of underage soccer players in Nigeria

The Fifa disciplinary commission has approved Serie A club Spezia to sign new players after being found guilty of bringing several minor players from Nigeria to Italy.

They have been banned from signing new players for four transfer windows, from January 2022 until the summer of 2023.

In addition to the suspension, Spezia will also pay a fine of 500,000 Swiss francs.

The Eagles finished in 15th place during Serie A season 2020-21 and the penalty is a blow to former PSG star Thiago Motta, who was appointed as the new manager a week ago.

“After an investigation carried out by the FIFA Division for the Execution of Regulations, the Disciplinary Committee of the highest football body found that the La Spezia Club had Article 19 of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP). ) violated by bringing several Nigerian minors footballers to Italy using a system designed to circumvent the above-mentioned RSTP article, as well as national immigration regulations, ” reads a statement on Fifa website.

‘Taking into account Spezia Calcio’s recognition of the serious breaches of the regulations, the FIFA Disciplinary Commission has imposed a market blockade, nationally and internationally, for four sessions, together with a fine of 500,000 Swiss francs. Spezia Calcio will therefore not be able to register new players for the next four market registration periods instituted by the Italian Football Federation. ”

Two other Italian clubs were convicted of the crimes USD Lavagnese 1919 and Valdivara 5 Terre, and they were also suspended for signing new players until the summer of 2023 with a fine of 4000 Swiss francs each.

It continued: “The FIFA disciplinary commission also imposed the market, nationally and internationally, for four registration periods and a fine of CHF 4 000 against USD Lavagnese 1919 and Valdivara 5 Terre, as these two clubs played an active role in the aforementioned system.

“The protection of minors is a fundamental objective of the legal framework governing the transfer system of players, and the effective application of these rules is essential to ensure the protection of the well – being of minors at all times. The three football clubs were informed today about the decision of the Fifa Disciplinary Commission. ”
