Shamarh Brooks and Chemar container return to West Indies’ 17-member preliminary team for tests in Pakistan

The West Indies have announced a preliminary team of 17 members for the upcoming two-Test series at home Pakistan. The two Tests take place at Sabina Park in Kingston, with the opening from the 12th of August and the second from the 20th. The rubber forms part of the second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.

The selection panel is reminiscent of fast bowler Chemar Holder, who made his Test debut against New Zealand last year. The 17-man squad, led by opening writer Kraigg Brathwaite, also sees batsman Shamarh Brooks return. But experienced fighters in Shannon Gabriel and Darren Bravo missed the choice.

Roger Harper, head of the selection panel, underlined that they had decided to give Shannon Gabriel more time to recover from his injury. The former West Indies cricketer explains Brooks’ choice by claiming that he scored a century in a four-day match last week. Harper opened up about Bravo’s omission and said he got time after being in it for a long time.

“Chemar Holder returns after recovering from his injury. He will strengthen the fast bowling division. Shamarh Brooks clinched him in the preliminary team by achieving an accomplished century. He will definitely add a little depth to the team’s batting. Shannon Gabriel had time to fully rehabilitate and build up his condition, so he was not part of the preparations for the Test series against Pakistan, which included the best match against the best. Darren Bravo was part of the ‘bubble’ from the preparatory camp that led to the Betway Test series against South Africa, and he got a breather, ” Harper claims according to the official website.

Roger Harper also wants the home team in each unit to be extremely competitive, with passion and determination. The 58-year-old wants the batting department to deliver, just like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka earlier this year.

‘I expect the team to be extremely competitive in each division while playing with passion, purpose and determination. “I look forward to the batsmen getting up as in the series against Bangladesh and against Sri Lanka earlier this year in Antigua.” he added.

West Indies Preliminary Team: Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Jermaine Blackwood (vc), Nkurmah Bonner, Sharamh Brooks, Rahkheem Cornwall, Roston Chase, Joshua de Silva, Jahmar Hamilton, Chemar Holder, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Kieran Powell, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales, Jomel Warrican.
