Former Australian leg spinner Shane Warne has brutally said that India made a mistake by not picking up their leading spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin. After Shardul Thakur was injured, everyone expected Ashwin to fall back into the side, but Ishant Sharma was chosen above him.
In the second of the Test series of 5 matches against England, India went in with four first-choice pickers, thus expanding their tails. The decision to do so has been debated, and some have said Ashwin did nothing to drop him.
As conditions in England are generally more favorable for patients, the Indian team management opted for four and excluded Ashwin. On day 4 of the Test, however, England’s spinning versatile player, Moeen Ali, wrapped a lane around the Indian batsmen, winding the visitors at 181/6 at the end of the game on day 4.
Moeen generated a lot of bounce and was also able to buy a decent amount of turns on a deteriorating Lord’s track. This prompted Shane Warne to explore India’s team selection, and he took to Twitter where he wrote:
“A spinner who spins the game !!!! Surprise surprise, so you always play a spinner, no matter the circumstances! Remember that you are not just choosing a team for the first time. Turn to win @SkyCricket.”

Shane Warne’s position can be confirmed on day 5
India have a lone spinner in Ravindra Jadeja, who has been used more as a bowler for damage control. He came to relieve the pacers of their shifts and give them time to breathe. It will be interesting to see if he can get the same turn as Moeen did.
At the end of day 4, India faltered at 181/6, leading England by just 154 runs. Rishabh Pant, in the company of Ishant Sharma, was informed.
The field was not as easy to bat on as on day 3, with the ball coming to the bat slightly slowly. Therefore, someone as smart as Ashwin could put the batsmen under great pressure. The match is set for an interesting finish, where all three results can be considered a possibility.
