Former Indian cricketers MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina share a brilliant camaraderie. MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina shared some of the most memorable partnerships in international cricket and the IPL. Their friendship remains intact even now. Meanwhile, Suresh Raina remembered a few moments when he shared a mockery on the field with MS Dhoni.
While Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni played together for the most part in IPL for the Chennai Super Kings, they were on the other side in 2016 and 2017. Suresh Raina was captain of the Gujarat Lions in those few years, while MS Dhoni was part of the Rising Pune Supergiants. But that hardly diminished their bond. In fact, the pair retired from international cricket the same day.
Suresh Raina remembered his days at the Gujarat Lions and said that with Ravichandran Ashwin bowling, Brendon McCullum batting, MS Dhoni behind the stumps, Faf Du Plessis at the slips and with himself at the end of the non-attacker, it felt has like playing in a neighborhood league. The 34-year-old remembers that Dhoni welcomed him on the crease when he walked out in a fun way to bat.
‘Yes, there were mixed emotions. I remember we played in Rajkot and Ashwin bowled ‘McCullum was at the end of the non-scorer; I batted; Dhoni bhai continues; Faf du Plessis stands on the first slip. It felt like we were playing the Kanga League of my neighborhood! … (I’m coming brother, move aside first!). It was all very nice, ” Raina said as quoted by Times Now.
We went to Ireland in 2018 and enjoyed ourselves there after the matches: Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina also revealed that MS Dhoni, when India toured Ireland in 2018, carried drinks for him, and that he also asked for lots of bats and gloves. The container batsman responded by mocking Raina when he asked Dhoni for a grip amid the cold weather.
‘We went to Ireland in 2018 and enjoyed ourselves there after the matches. Dhoni bhai carried drinks for me there. At one point he thought I had asked for a lot of gloves and bats, and he brought the whole bag to the ground and said, ‘Take what you want, do not call me again’. I think I batted with Rahul and we both hit fifty. He (Dhoni) said ‘I will not come again, it is very cold out here’. (laughs) I still said, ‘Do one thing, pull too’. And he answered, ‘Bohot commands waala hai tu, tu rukja, paani pi, mai leke aata hu’. So that was the kind of fun. I thought to myself that I would take full revenge that day, “he said. he added.
