Tekpetey: Ludogorets concludes permanent deal for Ghana striker from Schalke 04

Ghana wing Bernard Tekpetey has permanently severed ties with German Schalke 04, making his move to Bulgarian outfit Ludogorets permanent.

The striker left a short-term deal from Veltins Arena to Stadium Ludogorets Arena last summer after struggling to find opportunities for the first team at the former.

This is the second time he has had to leave Schalke on a permanent contract after the club sold him to Paderborn in 2018 before using a buy-back option to bring him back to Veltins Arena after a year.

‘Bernard Tekpetey signed a permanent agreement with Ludogorets Razgrad. The Ghanaian forward originally moved there last summer with a two-year loan deal, but the Bulgarian champion has now agreed to sign him permanently. The 23-year-old’s contract with Schalke would last until 2023, “Schalke announced on them Official Website.

Last season, Tekpetey made 25 league appearances for Ludogorets, starting in 17 of the matches and scoring twice to help the club with the Bulgarian top flight. He also made a contribution when The Eagles won the Super Cup.

‘This transfer makes a lot of sense to all parties. Bernard moved in really well with Ludogorets and won the title with it last season. Letting him go permanently was also financially beneficial to us. We want to wish Bernard all the best for the future, ”said Rouven Schroder, sporting director of Schalke.

Tekpetey signed for Schalke in 2016 from the Ghanaian UniStar Academy outfit in 2016. In November of the same year, he made his professional debut for The Royals in a clash in the Europa League with the OGC Nice with the French team.

He made three league appearances in the German Bundesliga in the 2016-17 season, before being loaned to Austrian Rheindorf Altach in the 2017-18 term.

In the summer of 2018, Tekpetey was sold to the then German Bundesliga 2 team Paderborn, but was bought back by Schalke after just one year.

He spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf before being loaned out to Ludogorets last summer.

The 23-year-old is a full-fledged Ghana international and made his debut in an 2017 Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt.
