Steve Smith could miss the T20 World Cup in the UAE as he is currently nursing his long-standing elbow issue. He has been excluded from tours to the West Indies and Bangladesh and is also likely to retire from the second phase of the IPL 2021.
The right-hand man repeated the problem he had earlier this year and kept him out of action for a period in February and March before going to the IPL in India. He performed briefly for New South Wales again at the end of March and the issue has now resurfaced following his clash with Delhi Capitals in the tournament which has now been suspended.
Steve Smith says he wants to continue in the Ashes, where he left for England at a high point in the 2019 series, helping Australia maintain the urn with a thundering series of 774 runs at 110.57. Against England, he averages 65.11 in 27 Tests.
“I want to put myself in a position where I can have such an impact. “If it means we do not have to take part in the World Cup, we will have to take the road, but hopefully we will not have to go there,” said Steve Smith, according to Sportskeeda.
‘There’s still some time between now and [the T20 World Cup], and I’m watching closely at the moment – it’s slow, but I’m going right. I would definitely like to take part in the World Cup, but from my point of view, Test cricket, that is my main goal – to be ready for the Ashes and try to imitate what I have done in the last few Ashes. series in which I was involved, ”he added.
