Masandawana defeated the Buccaneers three times last season, including a 4-1 victory in the Nedbank Cup match
Rhamelani Mokwena, co-coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, says they are nowhere near their best before their meeting with the Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
This is despite the fact that Masandawana got off to a good start for their PSL campaign as they were placed at the top of the standings with three wins and one draw in their first four games.
The Tshwane giants defeated an unlucky TS Galaxy team 3-0 in their most recent league match at the weekend, but Mokwena is not happy as he has indicated they want to dominate matches.
‘We can not start singing another song now that we have won a few matches. “We knew from the first game that we would not be at our best in our early stages, and it is still clear,” Mokwena told the media.
“We still play well in patches, but we do not want a team that competes. We want a team that dominates. We are currently showing this in periods. We are still looking for a perfect game.
‘And maybe perfection does not exist, but the desire to want to be perfect is very important, because if you pursue perfection, you will reach a level of excellence, and that’s what we want.
‘We want every fit to be perfect, every build-up perfect and every scheme perfect. We want to be a team that is very difficult to play against. “
Sundowns will take on the Pirates at the Mecca of South African football, Orlando Stadium, and the Buccaneers are also unbeaten in the league this season.
The Buccaneers are hoping to challenge this season’s PSL title, and they are currently fourth on the standings – two points behind defending champions Sundowns.
“We do not want a team playing against Mamelodi Sundowns and think it is going to be a walk in the park. The league is a marathon. We have to be professional and have to be diligent,” Mokwena added.
“It’s about resting and recovering now, and then we will analyze our game and look at corrections before we prepare for a very difficult game against the Orlando Pirates. They are a very good team.”
