Former Arsenal full-back Bacary Sagna has slammed Arsenal after a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, saying “the club’s DNA is gone”.
Sagna is a constant force in the successful team of Arsene Wenger in the Emirates Stadium of yesteryear, and feels that the team will now concede ‘a stupid goal’ every time he looks at the Gunners.
Arsenal have now lost both their matches to start the campaign, which has accumulated further pressure on manager Mikel Arteta.
What was said?
“The DNA of the club is gone,” Sagna said. RMC. “If I look at Arsenal honestly now, I know that they will lose most of the time, that something will happen, that we will concede a stupid goal.
“When I played, everyone was excited to join Arsenal. We lost our identity.”
Poor start to the season
Arsenal’s defeat to Chelsea comes after they lost 2-0 to newly promoted Brentford in the first weekend of the Premier League. They are now level with 18th place on goal difference.
Arteta had hoped the opposite would play out in the year, as an eighth-place finish in the recent campaign has caused dissatisfaction during the season among many fans.
The Gunners take away Manchester City in their next league game, meaning three defeats in three games is a strong possibility.
Arteta responds to pressure
The driver has taken a positive outlook in recent weeks, even though the results on the field were bleak.
Sunday, just before the defeat of Chelsea, Arteta claims that his vision is finally coming together.
