Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman reckoned that the bowling combination of 3 seams + 2 spinners that India played during the ICC World Test Championship was the right one.
India’s The decision to play both Ashwin and Jadeja in the ICC WTC final was taken under scrutiny, as wet weather could not allow the spinners for most of the match in the match.
However, Laxman believes that India should keep the same combination, not only because the field in England can be very dry, but also because the twins of Ashwin and Jadeja are good enough batsmen, which will give the team an extra depth.
“The bowling combination that Virat Kohli used in the WTC final is the right one, because with it you have greater depth in your batting and you have three excellent pass bowlers – Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Bumrah.” says VVS Laxman about Star Sports.
‘When we talk about Ravichandran Ashwin, there is no shortage of skill and experience. Ravindra Jadeja can show his skill, not only in the bowling ball, but also with the bat. So I believe this will be the balanced game XI. He said.
As for Jasprit Bumrah, VVS Laxman supported the champion sailor to regain his form after a poor outing in the WTC final against the Kiwis.
The only thing Laxman encouraged Bumrah to do is bowl a full length, something he was guilty of not doing enough during the WTC final.
‘Jasprit Bumrah will have to work on one thing. We know that he has impressed everyone in international cricket over the last few years, especially in overseas Test matches. He is a bowler who takes a wicket, a match winner. said Laxman.
‘But when we talk about the final of the World Test Championship, the length of Jasprit Bumraha is a setback. In English conditions, if you have to take wickets, the more you throw the ball, the greater the chance that it will swing. I believe if he can improve his height slightly, he can win matches and be the trump card for this series. He added.
The five-match Test series starts on 04 August at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
