“Bukayo has been with us since the age of seven and the whole club could not have been more proud to see him represent England throughout the tournament. You can feel it all over the club.

“Last night we witnessed the leadership and character we have always known and loved in Bukayo. However, this sense of pride quickly turned to sadness over the racist remarks our young player was subjected to after the final whistle on his social media platforms.

‘Once again we are sad to have to say that we condemn racism against a number of black players. It can not continue and the social media platforms and authorities must act to ensure that this disgusting abuse to which our players are subjected on a daily basis stops.

‘We have internal processes at Arsenal to ensure that our players are supported emotionally and practically in this matter, but unfortunately there is only so much we can do.

“Our message to Bukayo is: keep your head up, we are so proud of you and we can not wait to welcome you back to Arsenal soon.”
