The Super Eagle was in an inspired form and would easily have had a hat trick for the hosts in the French top tier
Nigerian international Teremas Moffi put on a man-of-the-match performance as Lorient Lille beat French Ligue 1 2-1 to finish fourth on the table, awaiting the weekend’s result.
The West African provided assistance on Friday night before pressing Yves Allainmat – Le Moustoir late in the match to ensure his charges get maximum points.
The Super Eagle made an impact after just seven minutes when he selected his teammate Armand Lauriente in the danger zone. The latter controlled it well before finding the top corner, and gave the goalkeeper no chance.
However, Les Dogues got a lifeline in the 25th minute. A foul was committed in the 18-yard area and referee Clement Turpin had no choice but to point to the penalty spot.
It was an excellent moment for Burak Yilmaz. The Turkish player held his nerves before shooting past Paul Nardi in Les Merlus’ goal.
Igor Silva and Armand Lauriente had the chance to give the hosts the lead before half-time, but the goalkeeper made a save to deny the former, while the latter failed to hit the target, but the keeper was good hit.
For Lille, Yilmaz and Yusuf Yazici could not take advantage of the opportunities they had in the first 45 minutes.
Moffi was denied a minute from the break when he was able to get a rebound from a corner. With the goalkeeper struck, one of the defenders managed to make a goal line separation.
It was the visitors who started the second half on a high and won consecutive corners. But they could not find their way to resolute defenders who ensured that the ball was cleared in time.
Lorient’s Thomas Monconduit had a great chance to score in the 50th minute, but somehow the ball hit the defender and he was pushed to safety.
With 78 minutes played, Moffi put themselves up 0 – 1 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. But it mattered less because he was left with three minutes left.
He tied the ball in the 18-yard area, and after picking his place, he coolly led the ball home to score the winning goal and ensure his team collected their eighth point in five games.
