The 30-year-old died late in his country’s victory over Turkey after a violent clash
Virgil van Dijk wanted to fear all injuries after a clash in the Netherlands’ 6-1 victory over Turkey on Tuesday.
The defender was sent into the air after a collision with Halil Dervisoglu following a pass from Dutch goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, which led to a late consolation for the Turks.
Van Dijk was on the ground for a short time, as the Netherlands easily won the World Cup qualifier in Amsterdam.
What was said?
Van Dijk told reporters: “I’m doing well. Luckily I’m done. Maybe because I’m so big, they think I’m acting, because when I go down, it’s pretty slow.”
Fear of injury for Van Dijk
Fans from the Netherlands and Liverpool will be following the defender’s health closely this season, after missing the entire 2020-21 season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The injury played a big role in Liverpool’s inability to defend the Premier League title they won in the 2019-2020 campaign.
Van Dijk also missed out on Euro 2020 this summer, as the Dutch fell in the last 16 against the Czech Republic.
However, the defender has now returned for both club and country he suffered a broken finger last week after a clash with Norwegian star Erling Haaland.
With the international break now over for Van Dijk, he will perform for Liverpool on Sunday when they take on Leeds in the Premier League.
