Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Harris English, Daniel Berger, Scottie Scheffler with the American Ryder Cup team

Steve Stricker completed his U.S. Ryder team Wednesday by naming Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Harris Engels, Daniel Berger and Scottie Scheffler to the 12-average team.

The U.S. captain made the announcement at the Whistling Straits Golf Club in Haven, Wisconsin. The 43rd Ryder Cup starts on September 24th.

Previous U.S. Ryder Cup players not selected were Patrick Reed and Webb Simpson.

The American team automatically qualified six players via a points process that started in 2019 – Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay.

Finau, Schauffele, Spieth and English were the next four players in the standings.

The American team will have six Ryder Cup newcomers: Schauffele, Engels, Berger, Scheffler, Cantlay and Morikawa.

Stricker and the PGA of America changed the process when the Ryder Cup was postponed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, preferring to have only six automatic qualifiers and six picks.

The European team, led by Ireland Padraig Harrington, will have nine automatic heats at the end of this week’s BMW PGA Championship outside London. Harrington will make his three big choices after the final round.
