New Zealand defeat Bangladesh with 52 runs in the third T20 International (T20I) of the continuing series of five matches to be won on Sunday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The victory helped Kiwis end their losing streak after Bangladesh won the first two matches at the same venue.
Black Caps skipper Tom Latham won the toss and chose to bat first, but the visitors struggled against the slow bowlers of Bangladesh and lost their five wickets for just 62 runs in 11 overs. But then, Henry Nicholls (36) and Tom Blundell (30) took the tourists out of trouble and added an unbeaten stand of 66 runs for the sixth wicket to help their team reach 128/5 in 20 overs.
The hosts chased 129 to win and got a taste of their own medicine, with the NZ spinner Ajaz Patel dominated the proceedings by taking a four-wicket haul for just 16 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
Patel got rid of Mahedi Hasan (1), Shakib Al Hasan (0), Mahmudullah (3), captain in Bangladesh, en Afif Hossain (0) when the home team was bundled together for 76 runs, lost the match by 52 runs.
Apart from Patel, co-spinner Cole McConchie also shines with the ball and takes a three-fer for just 15 runs in 4 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim was Bangladesh’s top scorer with an unbeaten 20 off 37 balls.
Here’s how Twitter responded:
Wonderful work @BLACKCAPS guys! Were you not near a TV all day, so I did not see a ball … what does the wicket look like?

If the Bangladeshi cricket team has a bit of self-respect left, they should stop calling themselves a t20 team.
Well-played kiwis, your gut is admirable.#BANvNZ
