The first test between England and In the by Trent Bridge in Nottingham ended in a draw after not being able to play on the fifth and final day due to constant rain.
After rain washed out the first two sessions, officials decided to stop the game altogether. The hosts and the visitors would be disappointed as both teams were able to win the match and could take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
India finish 52/1 in their second innings, who still needs 157 runs to reach a victory target of 209. The Virat Kohli and Co lose KL Rahul (26) while Rohit Sharma (No. 12) and Cheteshwar Pujara (No. 12) was on the fold.
England captain Joe Root is named ‘Player of the match’ award because he was the highest scorer (64 in the first innings and 109 in the second innings) for his team. After the game, Root said they have the belief they can win, but it’s a shame the game was finally drawn.
‘The weather disrupted a very interesting last day. Great test match to play in and also watch. Set up the series very well, and hopefully we can take it to the next games. We definitely believed we could win. We knew we would get opportunities if we took our catches and kept our fields. It is a pity that it ends like this, “ says Root during the post-match presentation.
Like his counterpart, Kohli also looks disappointed with the result, as he reckons his team is in a very comfortable position and at the top of the game.
‘We expected rain on days three and four, but it chose to come on day five. It would have been nice to play and watch, but it’s a shame. This is exactly what we wanted to do; strong start. On day five, we knew we had our chances. We definitely felt like we were at the top of the game. The lead was crucial, but it is a pity we could not complete day five. “ said Kohli.

England really got away from there. Would have scored a win if India collapsed, but the chances are very favorable for the visitors if we even had 40 overs on day 5. #ENGvIND

If India play overseas, the rain always comes on the 5th day, only when India is strong. I have never rained on the 5th day when India wanted to save the Test. #ENGvIND
