South Africa hit Sri Lanka by nine wickets in the second T20I Sunday at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The victory gave the visitors an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the continuing series of three matches.
Tabraiz Shasmi was the chief architect behind the epic victory for the Proteas. On its sensational bowling, South Africa gathered the hosts for just 103 after the Islanders decided to bat first.
Shamsi scored a three-wicket-taker for just 20 runs in his 4-over quota. The left arm turner is fired Dhananjaya de Silva (4), Captain of Sri Lanka Dasun Shanaka (10) and Chamika Karunaratne (8).
Apart from Shasmi, Aiden Markram also shines with the ball taking three headers for 21 runs in 4 overs. Markram removed set batsmen Kusal Perera (30) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (20) for steering Charith Asalanka (14) back to the pavilion to complete his three wickets.
In response to this, the tour party chased down the target in 14.1 overs with nine wickets in hand. Opener Quinton de Kock broke a brilliant half-century and remained unbeaten on 58 off 48 balls to take his side over the finish line.
‘I’m only one part of the unit, and I only do my job on the day. We have quite a few quality bowlers in our attack. These pitches take much more turn than those at home. We have to use it to our advantage, and you can see the quality in our bowling. Sri Lanka prepared turn wickets, and we fought fire with fire. I put my heart and soul into the team. It’s just the emotions of my hard work that come to the fore during my celebrations, ” Shamsi said after the game.
