Stephanie Mawuli (six points, four rebounds, two assists, two blocks) blocked a two-point effort from Kelsey Plum against the buzzer and Japan’s 3×3 women’s basketball team defeated Team USA 20-18 in the final preseason for both teams. Tuesday at Aomi Urban Sports Park in Tokyo. The U.S., who have already played the No. 1 tournament for tournament play, fell to 6-1, while Japan improved to 5-2. ‘
The USA will play in the semifinals next Wednesday at 04:00.
Mai Yamamoto (eight points, one rebound, one assist) put Japan ahead with two with a score of 31 seconds left. Her team trailed 5-0, 6-1 and 14-9. Yamamoto also scored a 7-1 run in Japan that gave Japan a 16-15 lead with a two-pointer at 2:01.

Dolson led the United States by seven points in a defeat. She also had three rebounds and two assists, while Allisha Gray was good for five points, two rebounds and two assists. Jackie Young was also solid with four points, four rebounds and two assists, but Plum, who was phenomenal for the U.S. in this Olympics, was shot from just deep on two points and 0-of-4.
Two-pointers made a big difference in the game as Japan scored 3-of-7 from outside the arc compared to the US-0-of-5 joint effort. Japan also scored 4-of-4 from the free-throw line while the U.S. was 1-of-2.
It looked like Team USA 3×3 got a little smug in a 20-18 defeat against Japan, and he lost a five-point lead twice. Loss, however, had no impact on the Americans who sow; they packed all the top seed in the semifinals. If they were going to have a playoff game, this was the best time to do it.
