Wasim Jaffer takes a sly grip on the English team as he praises the players from India after the first Test

Former opening of Indian Test Wasim Jaffer singled out several positive points for Team India of the Nottingham Test while digging in England by saying the home side were saved by rain.

With another 157 runs on the final day and nine wickets in the bank, India look favorites on the 5th day, but the weather gods have different ideas, as sustained rain ensured that not a single ball was bowled on Sunday.

Yet it was a Test match that dominated India to a large extent.

KL Rahul made a brilliant return to Test cricket as he showed remarkable discipline and eagerness to score 84 in the first innings in difficult circumstances.

Rohit Sharma again could not turn his start into a big shot, but he looks extremely confident after the fold and he and Rahul’s first pair look the best between both sides.

Jaffer also points to the crucial half-century of Ravindra Jadeja in the first innings and the contribution of the Indian tail that helped the visitors to take a significant lead in the first innings.

He also praised Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj for claiming important wickets during the Test match, in addition to praising Jasprit Bumrah for his brilliant play in both innings.

Bumrah was comfortably India’s best bowler in the first Test when he finished with figures of 9/110, which includes a five-wicket wicket in the second innings.

“Rain saved England, but very positive for India,” writes Wasim Jaffer.
