WATCH: Sheldon Cottrell picks a left-hander to fire Glenn Phillips in CPL 2021

In the 14th game of the running Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021, Sheldon Cottrell exhibited an overall exhibition of cricket.

Cottrell took one wicket for 17 runs in 3 overs and played an important unbeaten 20-run beat to inspire St Kitts and Nevis Patriots achieve a beautiful victory against Barbados Royals.

Not only that, but the Jamaican player also got a spectacular catch at the boundary line to get rid of the Royals star Glenn Phillips.

It all happened on the first ball of the 13th over by the Patriots’ captain Dwayne Bravo. The right bow delivered a full delivery outside the tree stump, which was hit by Phillips for a big shot. For a moment it seemed that the ball would easily sail for a six over the boundary.

However, Cottrell had other plans. The 32-year-old jumps with perfection as long as he could at the long-off and plucks the white leather in the air with his left hand.

Here is the video:

As the first to bat, the Royals put 160/8 on the scoreboard in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to a remarkable half-century through Smit Patel.

Patel made 54 of 48 balls using three fours and two sixes. Bravo was the choice of bowler for the Patriots. He picked up a four-wicket wicket, including Patel’s valued scalp. The versatile star conceded 26 runs in his quota of 4 overs.

In response, the Patriots chased down the goal in 20 overs with two wickets in hand. Chris Gayle (42) and Devon Thomas (26) played valuable shots before the Royals returned and picked up a few wickets quickly in a row. But the tail pair of Dominic Drakes and Cottrell took the Patriots over the finish line by adding 29 runs for the eighth wicket.

‘It was an honest conversation between two (himself and Drakes) bowlers; it’s a shame he was not there to get us over the line, but I did it for him, ‘ says Cottrell after the game.
