” We beat Swallows FC and Orlando Pirates’ – Phohlongo warns Kaizer Chiefs

The Ajax Cape Town academy product, which has earned twice against Amakhosi’s arch-rivals Bucs this past season, has promised to fight for a victory

TS Galaxy midfielder Masilake Phohlongo has warned Kaizer Chiefs ahead of their opening match for the 2021/22 PSL season on Sunday.

The Rockets play host to Amakhosi at Mbombela Stadium, where they achieved great results last season with the opponents of the Chiefs in Soweto, Swallows FC and Orlando Pirates.

Phohlongo, who scored the winning goal against Pirates, stressed how important it is not to concede against the Glamor Boys.

‘It’s a little sad that we do not have fans at the stadium. The Mbombela Stadium is our stronghold, ”Phohlongo told the club Official Website. “We beat people like Swallows and Orlando Pirates at Mbombela. We must not concede. That is going to be the key for us.”

However, Galaxy succumbed 1-0 in their last league match of the 2020/21 match against Chiefs at Mbombela Stadium, and Samir Nurkovic scored the only goal of the meeting.

Phohlongo is pleased with the team’s preparation, and he also promised that they will fight to secure Amakhosi’s victory.

“As a team, we are ready. We are prepared. This is the first game of the season. This is a must-win game for us. We know what we are looking for in a season. Everyone is ready, “continued the 24-year-old.” The competition for places is tough. We will fight for each other. We worked hard as a team. If we continue to work hard as a team, then the individuals shine.

“When it comes to big games, the team always works hard. Everyone in this team wants to play against the so-called big teams. We want to win every game and it will start on Sunday. We are ready for that.”

Chiefs come into this showdown after stepping out of the MTN8 series after losing to Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-finals last week.

“We watched them. We saw their weaknesses and strengths. Chiefs are a great team. We will give them respect, but on the playing field it is eleven against eleven, “Phohlongo added. We are ready.

“Sunday is all about who works hard. We have to fight.”

Phohlongo was part of the Bafana Bafana team that won the 2021 Cosafa Cup in Port Elizabeth.
