West India Cricket has announced a 13-member squad for the first Test against Pakistan and they made some interesting choices, such as Rakheem Cornwall being left out. West India has not yet had the consistently good performances in the Test arena that we were used to in the old days.
They combined a bunch of young players with some experienced players like Jason Holder and Kemar Roach, and they sometimes caused some upset against the big teams. It is definitely going to be a competitive series, with the Pakistan Test team in a good fight.
West Indian selection panel selects for diversity in the group
The West Indies selection panel mentioned that the team was selected based on the spin and fast bowling options. Lead voter Roger Harper justified wanting to bolster their batting, which has borne good fruit in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. In terms of variety, they teamed up with Jomel Warrican, and also put the overall capabilities of Roston Chase with Cornwall in the reserves.
‘The selection panel has selected a team that offers both pace and spin bowling options. With Roston Chase included, variety was taken into account when choosing Jomel Warrican ”
‘It’s good to have Nkrumah Bonner back. The team is doing very well as our batsmen score centuries as we have seen against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. So, I look forward to our batsmen scoring big points, ” Roger Harper, chief selector of the West Indian senior men’s team
Nkrumah Bonner forms the group of 13 members
Nkrumah Bonner, who was in the news for sharing the historic partnership with Kyle Mayers against Bangladesh, was also included in the 13-man squad for the first Test.
West Indies: Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Jermaine Blackwood (vice-captain), Nkrumah Bonner, Roston Chase, Joshua Da Silva, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Kieran Powell, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales, Jomel Warrican

Pakistan enjoyed success in the previous tour of the West Indies in 2016, and they will try to continue their good performances.
