The former Olifants midfielder impressed with the Azzurri not suffering a defeat in the competition
Ivory Coast legend Yaya Toure praised his former coach Roberto Mancini for leading Italy to the Euro 2020 semi-finals.
On Friday night, the Azzurri advanced to the last four with an excellent 2-1 victory over Belgium, in a match full of opportunities.
Nicolo Barella and Lorenzo Insigne are on the scoresheet for Italy and both deliver excellent finishes to put their team ahead 2-0, but Romelu Lukaku pulls one off the penalty spot before the break.
The Red Devils then pushed forward in search of an equalizer in the second period, with Lukaku being the closest going, but Leonardo Spinazzola brilliantly blocked his effort on the line. The Italian defense then used all their experience to stand firm and retain the victory.
“Did you all enjoy the game? Well, I have a lot!” Toure, who played for the tactician at Manchester City, posted on social media.
“Congratulations Roberto Mancini for reaching the semi-finals with five consecutive victories! What an incredible driver leading Italy to one of the Euro 2020 winning matches! Mancini, what a man, what a coach!
“Italy advance to the semi-finals of Euro 2020.”
The charges led by Mancini now play against Spain in the semi-finals. The latter progressed after eliminating Switzerland 3-1 on penalties. The two teams drew 1-1 in regulatory time.
Toure’s followers had mixed reactions after the tweet and here are the best posts:
