The towering striker has made a name for himself with the J1 League team, although the move has been criticized by fans
Kenyan international Michael Olunga explained why he had to sign for the Japanese Kashiwa Reysol despite the criticism that greeted the move.
The Al-Duhail SC striker moves to the J1 league after his loan spell at Girona FC in La Liga ended and the move is seen as a wrong career decision as many people feel he should stay in Europe.
“People can advise you, which is good, but you as a person are the one who knows the pros and cons for every step you take. Of course, every move will be driven by different factors and circumstances. That’s why I take a step. had to do what would satisfy me as a player, ‘said Olunga Bitch’o TV.
The former Tusker striker also revealed the difficult conditions he gave Kashiwa Reysol before agreeing to accept their offer.
‘I gave my condition to Kashiwa Reysol. “I let them know that I did not play at the previous clubs, and that I guaranteed enough playing time, because that was the only way my value was going to be raised,” he explained.
“I decided to make the move after they guaranteed me I was going to play 75% of the games this season. As a player I knew what I wanted, I knew where the shoe was pinching, and I knew what I wanted.
“I did not start the first game, but the second and scored, but it is noteworthy that I got there when Kashiwa Reysol deteriorated. I played ten games and scored three goals that season, but we I can say that it was the biggest test in my career because I had never played in the second division in my life.
“We fought and returned to J1 and before the season started, I promised myself to fight for the award of the top scorer. Reysol has never produced a top scorer in the J1 league and I “I managed to break it. I was finally able to break it, but it was not easy, because I was the only English-speaking player, and the other foreigners were Brazilians.”
After two years with Kashiwa Reysol, Olunga signed in 2021 at Al-Duhail, Qatar,’s top flight.
