Bobby Wood says he has not been in contact with anyone from US Soccer for a while when he adjusts to life in MLS with Real Salt Lake.
Wood signed with RSL in April after spending his entire professional career up to that point in Germany. He scored two goals in 11 games, five of which were starting.
The 28-year-old forward was previously a regular member of the U.S. men’s team and scored 13 goals in 45 games with his most recent appearance in November 2018, but he says he does not expect a call anytime soon. it looks like he could get his club career back on track.
What was said?
“I have not spoken to the federation for a while, but it is not surprising, I have not played for a while,” Wood said. extra time. “So, with the high level talent that the national team has now, it’s not something I expected. But for me it’s always an honor to play with the national team, but it’s about RSL now. .
‘I just have to do my thing here, and once I make the move, I can look forward to playing with the national team again. play as much as I can and just enjoy again. “
Find a home at RSL
After spending the past 14 years in Germany, such as Munich, Union Berlin and Hamburg, in 1860, Wood was ready to re-educate his family on his own soil.
He signed a two-year contract with the club earlier this year and now enjoys the convenience of living back in the US
“I think I was mentally ready to come home,” Wood said. ‘I was in Germany for 14 years, and since 14 I have seen my mother and my family once a year. The family is growing up here and closer to my family and a homely feeling, and I was mentally ready for that. “
RSL, who are currently sixth in the Western Conference, exceeded expectations this season after many expected the club to struggle to reach a playoff spot.
But Wood says the club wants to prove doubters wrong.
“We have great potential,” Wood said. ‘We have a wonderful group of guys, the mentality, everything is there, everyone is fit, everyone is mentally there. We have a hard working team, everyone from top to bottom just wants to work hard.
“I think it’s a process to build it more and more, and as the season goes on, we’ll hopefully be able to build one step at a time. For me, I think we have a very strong team, and I did not think we should be looked down on as much as many people might do. ”
