Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have mutually agreed to leave WWE as part of a larger effort by the company to cut payroll expenses. This decision comes after both wrestlers enjoyed successful careers within the organization.
Kofi Kingston signed with WWE in 2006. He famously won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35 in April 2019. Over his career, he became a four-time Intercontinental Champion, a 14-time Tag Team Champion, and a three-time United States Champion.
Xavier Woods joined WWE in 2010. He has accumulated 10 Tag Team Championship reigns and one NXT Tag Team Championship alongside Kingston as part of the New Day.
As of midday Tuesday, both wrestlers have been moved to the alumni section of WWE’s website. Their departures are part of a wave of cuts; WWE released 23 Superstars in one night.
Kofi Kingston’s last televised match was on April 17, 2026. Observers noted that both wrestlers will likely be in high demand outside of WWE.
Officials stated that Kofi Kingston will still be able to wrestle under his real name but not as “Kingston.” In contrast, Xavier Woods will need to adopt a different identity since “Xavier Woods” is owned by WWE.
There is a standard 90-day wait period on their releases. Both departures have been described as mutual decisions to part ways.
The exits mark the end of an era for two performers whose partnership along with Big E became one of the most enduring acts in modern WWE.
Looking ahead, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods are expected to pursue opportunities in rival promotions, including All Elite Wrestling.
