Stefon Diggs was acquitted of all charges related to an alleged assault against his former chef, Jamila Adams, on May 5, 2026. The Dedham District Court jury found him not guilty after a two-day trial.
The jury delivered their verdict after roughly one hour of deliberation. They cleared Diggs of a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery.
Adams testified that during a pay dispute on December 2, 2025, Diggs choked and slapped her. However, Diggs did not take the stand during the trial. His attorneys asserted that the alleged incident never occurred and questioned Adams’ credibility.
Adams had worked as Diggs’ live-in chef since July 2022. Initially seeking $19,000 from him, her claim later escalated to $5.5 million.
Diggs is currently a free agent after being released by the New England Patriots in March 2026. He is a four-time Pro Bowl selection and has played in the NFL for 11 years.
After the verdict, Diggs’ attorney stated he was happy and vindicated. “He is completely innocent of these false allegations,” said Mitchell Schuster.
Andrew Kettlewell, another attorney for Diggs, emphasized that there was no credible evidence supporting the prosecution’s case. The conflicting accounts presented during the trial raised questions about Adams’ reliability.
This case has drawn attention not just for its serious allegations but also for its implications within the NFL community. As teams evaluate potential free agents like Diggs, legal issues can significantly impact player negotiations.
