Davey Todd, a nine-time North West 200 winner, has been ruled out of this year’s race due to injuries sustained in a crash at the Daytona 200. Despite his intense recovery efforts, he will not compete.
Todd suffered multiple injuries including a broken femur, tibia, foot, and nose in the crash. The incident occurred when he was thrown from his Triumph motorcycle and hit a wall.
Following the accident, he underwent surgery in the USA. He then completed an intensive six-week recovery program at the Formula Medicine clinic in Italy.
Earlier this week, Todd expressed optimism about his return. He felt strong and healthy during tests after getting back on a motorbike for the first time since the accident at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia.
However, as of midday Tuesday, the Chief Medical Officer assessed Todd and found him unfit to participate in the race. Mervyn Whyte, event director, stated that they are very disappointed about Todd’s condition.
Todd’s teammate Peter Hickman had previously indicated optimism about his recovery. Yet, it appears that despite his hard work, Todd’s participation was always uncertain after such serious injuries.
In his own words, Todd said, “I’m gutted, I’m confused. I worked so hard over the last weeks to get fit and to come back and race in front of the fans here at the North West.” He has won this prestigious event nine times and secured a treble in 2025.
The disappointment is palpable among fans and teammates alike as they prepare for this year’s race without one of their star competitors.
