Ryanair passengers faced significant disruptions at Milan Bergamo Airport due to EES border delays. Many missed their flights as a result of prolonged passport control processes.
As of early Tuesday, 30 passengers were reported stranded at Milan Bergamo. This followed an incident on 16 April when travelers missed a flight from Milan to Manchester.
The Entry/Exit System (EES) requires non-EU citizens to register biometric information at border crossings. It became fully operational on 10 April 2026, replacing manual passport stamping.
Approximately 122 passengers were also stranded at Milan Linate, highlighting the widespread impact of these delays. Ryanair has advised customers to arrive early due to longer queues at busy airports.
The EES system is designed to streamline the entry process by requiring passengers to scan passports, provide fingerprints, and submit facial images. Each registration takes an estimated 1-2 minutes per person.
Greece has paused its rollout of the EES due to considerable delays, further complicating travel for many. The Schengen Area includes 27 countries but excludes the UK and Cyprus.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding how long these delays will persist or if additional measures will be implemented to alleviate the situation. Ryanair continues to monitor conditions closely.
