Microsoft’s Outlook Lite app for Android, designed for low-resource phones and slower networks, will be fully retired on May 25, 2026. This follows its initial retirement from the Google Play Store on October 6, 2025, and comes after it surpassed 10 million downloads by September 2024.
After the retirement date, Outlook Lite will cease fetching new emails, and core features will be disabled. Existing email, calendar items, and attachments will remain accessible when users sign in to Outlook Mobile. Microsoft strongly recommends that users transition to Outlook Mobile before the deadline to avoid service disruption.
Outlook Lite was launched in 2022 as part of Microsoft’s strategy to focus on Outlook Mobile as the primary mobile email experience. However, it did not integrate cloud services or support enterprise features like Data Loss Prevention (DLP), limiting its functionality for business users.
In early October 2025, Microsoft blocked new users from installing Outlook Lite, signaling its shift towards the more comprehensive Outlook Mobile app, which is ad-supported and requires a Microsoft 365 Personal or Home subscription for an ad-free experience.
Neowin emphasized, “If you do still have it, you should definitely migrate to Outlook Mobile so that you aren’t cut off in late May.” Meanwhile, Microsoft reassured users that their Outlook accounts would remain unaffected by the shutdown, ensuring that all data would remain intact.
Despite its limitations, Outlook Lite served its purpose well for users with low-end hardware and slow internet access. As the retirement date approaches, users are urged to make the switch to ensure continued access to their email and calendar functionalities.
