Moya Brennan, the renowned lead singer of the Irish folk group Clannad, has passed away at the age of 73 in County Donegal, Ireland, on April 13, 2026. Her family confirmed that she died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, marking the end of a remarkable career that spanned over five decades.
Brennan, born Máire Philomena Ní Bhraonáin on August 4, 1952, in Dublin, was a pivotal figure in the music world. She was instrumental in bringing Irish folk music to the international stage, particularly through her work with Clannad, which was formed in 1970. The group gained fame for their unique sound that blended traditional Irish music with contemporary influences, and they were known for incorporating the Irish language into mainstream music culture.
Throughout her career, Brennan and Clannad achieved significant milestones, including winning a Bafta Award for Best Television Music in 1984 and a Grammy Award for Best New Age Album in 1999.
