The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey has been released. The film promises a grand cinematic experience with a reported budget of $250 million.
The film retells the story of Odysseus’ 10-year voyage back to Ithaca after the Trojan War. Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, while Anne Hathaway plays his wife, Penelope, the Queen of Ithaca.
As of early Tuesday, the trailer also features Tom Holland as Telemachus and Robert Pattinson as Antinous. Observers note that it includes mythological threats such as whirlpools, Cyclops, and Calypso.
Nolan’s latest project is set to be released on 16 July in Australia and 17 July in the UK and US. This marks his first film since the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer.
The film has been shot entirely on large-format IMAX cameras. A six-minute version of the trailer will appear in front of 70mm IMAX screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
