Witnesses reported that the attack felt unprovoked. Van Gerwen himself stated, “That man had clearly had too much to drink and it felt to me like his anger came out of nowhere.” Security stopped him from pursuing the aggressor.
The aggressor later apologized via Instagram for his actions. Van Gerwen decided not to press charges against him.
